Pacing the Lizard

So, I live in Palm Springs, CA and so does a little tiny gecko lizard that has made its home underneath my stairs. We’ve come to an understanding, this little one and I… I make it a point to get out of my virtual world and home office into the physical world at least once daily. When I do, he walks me to my car and back to my door again every day. Lately, I’ve noticed how he does it… he darts in front of me, then slows down for me to catch up, then he goes again but not necessarily in the same direction that he was when he stopped… so he’s zigzagging all over the path, and he’s stopping and starting, but we end up at the same place in the end.

My contemplation of that has taken me in all kinds of different directions… for example, which of us is more efficient – me with my steady, forward direction or him, who bursts forward and checks out the tangents? Does he pull me forward or do I push him to move faster? Is he feeling the vibration of my steps and is he trying to get out of my way, or is he staying just enough ahead to keep feeling them?

Naturally, because of the way I am wired, my next thought was how to apply this to business and helping my clients… are they surrounded by people who are pulling them forward or pushing them to go faster? Is going forward in all directions a good strategy? Are they taking time to rest in between bursts of activity so they can rejuvenate? Is one of the secrets of our working success that they move faster because of our work together, feeling the vibration of our synergy as a focal point? (I like to think so…)

At any rate, my “pet” gecko has given me the gift of slowing down enough to ponder energy from a different perspective. I highly recommend you take a moment to consider the energy of your environment… it will get you into your body and connected with nature… not to mention formalizing your friendship with the wild ones where you live.

Know What You Know

In my work with entrepreneurs who are creating a business as a means of expressing their life purpose as well as to generate a living, oftentimes it becomes evident that people aren’t listening to what they already know.

One young woman feels the pull of creating cards and calendars and customized art for people to feel good about their world – but is too focused on her job as a teacher to see that the potential of aligning with her art as a business will yield far more returns than her teaching job. She “knows” it but she’s not owning that.

A man who is a business partner wants to teach the world a new approach to living a better quality of life – it’s where he finds his joy and it’s effortless for him AND he already has students! – but he continues to turn down his light because he’s in this partnership that generates revenue. He ‘knows’ but he’s choosing to slow down his right path because of the pull of the physical world.

A consulting firm owner who is doing everything right, from motivating her staff to asking for referrals to generating proposals, but isn’t excited about it because her calling is to start a new movement about innovative leadership and help cultivate emerging leaders vs. solving the need in established agencies with daily operational issues. She “knows” but she has trepidations about jumping from her boring but reliable bread and butter to something new, unknown and as-yet-unproven.

And yet, with each of them, they are getting their “signs” of knowingness… if they listen to their messages and act accordingly, they would make progress a lot faster because things would be smoother and would occur without resistance. Somehow, each of them perceives that it is a big change and will take a lot to make it, and yet, I would argue that the big energy is really in holding themselves back from what they know to be true for them in their heart of hearts.

My question for you: what do you know and what can you do right now to take action on it?

Face Reading for Facebook

Well, at long last, I decided to follow the advice of my personal social media sage, Michelle Price and create a Face Reading for Facebook page.

Now, that has been no small feat – that meant I had to finagle my way around Facebook to create a business profile and a group page, all in addition to my Facebook profile. I had to figure out how I was going to get the word out (I decided to read people’s faces on video for about 3 minutes each), which meant that I had to figure out how to use my new webcam.

Not only that, but I had to learn how to make the video into a movie and upload it in all the right places, then tag it properly, and set up a corresponding web page on my main website, for face reading. I had to create a product for a face reading session <www.lynnreadsfaces.com>, complete with all the links and autoresponder.

Naturally, Michelle pushed me a little further – she convinced me to try using various alternatives to submit videos online, which pushed my technological learning curve that much farther. However, that got me to have the top three spots in Google search rankings for several key search terms within 90 minutes!

Meanwhile, within 24 hours, Michelle Anton interviewed me for her blog, I was deluged with face reading requests from my Facebook Friends, and several people have noticed my gifts, skills and talents in a way that wasn’t evident before (translation: I’ve gotten several invitations to be a guest speaker on mastermind calls, etc.).

I wanted to document what’s been happening, because it really is all about the power of social networking! And, at some point, I’ll share more about face reading – for now, I’m on the run to do more face readings by video! ;+) And please – if you’re on Facebook, connect with me to be my friend!

The Accelerated Path to Personal Development

When people ask me what I consider entrepreneurial business, one of the definitions I use most often is that it’s the accelerated path to personal development (on steroids). It is impossible to have a business, much less a soul-driven business that is your purpose manifest in the world, and not grow as a person. Here are five of the milestones of personal development that you may recognize yourself in random order (and if you haven’t had them yet, keep an eye out!).

1. Know what you know. In order to optimize the expression of who you are in the world through your business, you have to “know what you know”. That is, you must access and utilize what your “gut” tell you – no one else can do it for you. It is the only true decision-making process that you need, if you’re doing it right.

2. Speak your truth. What’s true isn’t necessarily a truth… think about that one. For example, while today is nice, it may not be tomorrow, but the sun will rise today and the sun will rise tomorrow – that’s the difference. Truth doesn’t change. Be expressive and compassionate in honestly saying what needs to be said.

3. Personal power. Tapping into and making decisions from your personal power source requires you to develop an inner relationship with that source. If you’re tapped in, you’re tuned in… and that’s the clearest path to showing up more effectively in the world.

4. Master priorities management. There isn’t really such a thing as time management, because time marches on – it doesn’t really respond to commands. But you can, and must, determine what’s urgent (the ’911′-types), what’s important (essential but patiently waiting for you), and the non-essential (why bother?). If you aren’t working the “critical inch” of your business, your business isn’t working for you.

5. Distill to the essence. Everything you do matters – everything. And the way you do it does as well…make sure that you are focusing on the core activities, relationships and spirit of what’s vital for you to feel good about your work AND your life.
While there are many other milestones for personal development as a result of doing soul-driven business, these five are central themes that I’ve discovered over the course of the last decade in working with entrepreneurs. If you’re doing each of them consistently, your business is showing it… and if not, you’ve got some good accelerated growth opportunities waiting for you!

What does your accelerated path to personal development look like?
